Originating in the early eighties decade in urban Jamaica, this music developed from a shift to the prevalence of conscious reggae. First, it was characterized by selectors toasting over dub reggae, soon progressing into a distinct blend of synthesized sounds, rhythmic beats, and sometimes raw lyrics.
